At the Fort Smith Board of Directors meeting scheduled for 10-22-24, the Board will vote on whether to apply for a Community Noise Mitigation federal grant for projects at Orr Elementary and Carnall Elementary to reduce military jet noise.

There is an item on the agenda for the Board to vote on devoting the first study session of the month every month solely to water and sewer topics. However, staff is going to recommend that this item be tabled, so it is possible that it will not be voted on at this meeting.

The Board will vote on whether to allocate an additional $50,000 to the spay and neuter voucher program. Since February, the program has resulted in 1500 pets being sterilized.

The Board will vote on whether to contract with Halff Associates for $278,365 for engineering and design on a consent decree sewer project consisting of 13,816 ft of pipe repair and repair or replacement of 101 manholes.

The Board will vote on adding an additional $582,962.50 to the existing contract with RJN Group for the assessment of additional sewer line segments and manholes that were not included in the original contract for the assessment required by the consent decree.

The Board will vote on whether to contract with Royal Ridge Construction for $4,530,534 for consent decree sewer work including 12,000 ft of pipe repair, replacement of clean outs, and repair and replacement of manholes.

The Board will vote on whether to contract with Forsgren for $2,281,427.42 for 1.7 miles of street overlays.

Rogers avenue utility relocation map

The Board will vote on whether to contract with Hawkins-Weir for $344,800 for design on the utilities relocation project that is needed to accommodate the widening of Rogers Avenue from I-540 to 74th Street. The full cost of the project will be reimbursed by ARDOT.

kinetic breaching tool

The Board will vote on authorizing the Police Department to accept the $46,510 Edward Byrne Memorial grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The grant will be used to purchase a kinetic breaching tool for use by the SWAT team, replacement handguns and holsters, and ballistic vest carriers.
