The Fort Smith Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday this week instead of the typical Tuesday. It will begin with the Board voting on an amendment to the agreement with Payit for the new online utility bill payment system that will make it so that the City pays all of the transaction fees. The original agreement would have passed the 80 cent transaction fee and 2.5% processing fee for debit and credit cards or $1.25 per transaction processing fee for ACH payments on to the customers to pay. The cost to the city for paying these charges is expected to be $500,000-$600,000 per year.

The only other item on the agenda for the meeting is a presentation aimed at the public about the May 24th Sales tax renewal vote. It is the same presentation that has been being given by the Mayor and Directors at meetings with civic organizations and private companies. The Fire Chief, Police Chief, Utilities Director, and Parks Director will also speak on the importance of tax revenues to their departments and the impacts on their departments if the voters do not pass the tax renewals.
