Agenda Highlights 6/21/22 and 6/23/22

The Fort Smith Board of Directors meeting scheduled for 6-21-22 will begin with the presentation of the results of the Audit Advisory Committee’s review of the 2021 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The Audit Advisory Committee is made up of Directors Morton, Dawson, and Martin and 4 other citizens and reviews the audit findings from the outside auditors hired by the City.

The Board will vote on a temporary moratorium on new residential building permits for areas surrounding the airport. The aim of the moratorium would be to allow time for a sound study to be conducted in relation to the F-35 pilot training mission likely coming to Ebbing Air National Guard Base. The temporary stoppage of issuing residential building permits would last until December 21, 2023 and only apply to new residential permits, not commercial developments, and not changes to existing homes including renovations and expansions of up to an additional 25% of the home or adding decks or pools.

The Board will vote on renewal of the franchise giving permission for Payless Taxi to operate a taxi cab service in Fort Smith.

On Thursday June 23, 2022, a Ward 2 meeting will be held at UAFS’s Smith Pendergraft Campus Center. There is not a set agenda for the meeting. Ward Neighborhood Meetings are a less formal structured meeting and instead offer citizens opportunity to meet in smaller groups with the Mayor and Board of Directors and with the department heads from the various city departments. While the meetings are targeted toward the residents of that ward, it is not at all necessary or required to be a resident of Ward 2 to attend and participate in the meeting. If you live anywhere in Fort Smith and have questions or concerns or anything you would like to discuss with the Board or the department heads, you are invited to participate.
