Agenda Highlights 10/5/21
At the Fort Smith Board of Directors Meeting to be held 10-5-21, they will vote on several zoning changes. The first is to allow for a new mostly residential development at Chaffee Crossing called Abbington Creek made up mostly of duplexes. The second is to allow the building that is currently Dean’s Carpets to be turned into an indoor storage facility. The third is to allow for an expansion at Mercy Hospital that will include a 4 story tower to house a new Emergency and ICU wing and a 2 story parking garage. The final one is to allow for The Wash Room laundromat to built on undeveloped land on Phoenix.
The Board will vote on starting the process required to accept the $1,501,450 federal grant that Fort Smith has qualified for that is part of the Home American Rescue Plan be used for helping the homeless, people at risk for homelessness, and other vulnerable people including victims of domestic violence.
The Board will vote on a change to the policy that currently allows retired city employees to choose to still pay in full for and keep their medical, dental, and vision insurance to also offer that option to employees who are leaving their jobs with the city that have served 35+ years.
There will be a vote on whether or not to keep the property taxes for the city at the current millage rates
There will be a vote on whether to issue an $81,676.45 per year 3 year contract with the option for 3 one year renewals to Ellis Landscaping for landscaping and lawn maintenance Downtown.
