Agenda Highlights 1/4/22
The Fort Smith Board of Directors meeting scheduled for 1-04-22 is set to be full of zoning issues. The first is that the Board will vote on whether to approve a zoning change to allow for the former church building at 1208 Princeton to be converted into Just Art and Dance art and ballroom dance instruction studio.
The second zoning issue to be voted on is the appeal of the Planning Commission’s denial of Next Step Homeless Services request for the change that would allow for them to build a homeless shelter (to replace their current facility downtown) on the empty lot that was formerly the Malco Twin at 1400 South U.
The final zoning issue to be voted on is the appeal of the Planning Commission’s denial of Cambered Customs request for the change that would allow for them to have an indoor auto customization business specializing in show trucks and parking a few of the trucks outside on display at the former Galloway Tire building at 720 Towson.
The Board will vote on a change to the taxi cab regulations concerning the drivers’ yearly eye exams. Current rules specify that when annually renewing their license taxi drivers must get an eye test from the Arkansas State Police, but the State Police will no longer be offering the exams. So the Board will vote on changing the rules to require a test from an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
The Board will vote on approval of several Human Resources issues including the pay rates and benefits for city employees and the paid holidays for city employees (including a change in adding Juneteenth to the paid holiday schedule).
